Cyprus - Italy (World Cup 2010)
Cyprus faces Italy, one of the most difficult opponents, in its opening game for the FIFA World Cup 2010 Preliminaries.
Italy, who is the world champion since they won the title in Germany in 2006, is the undisputed favorite in this game and they will come to Cyprus hoping for an easy win.
Cyprus chances in this game are limited, but they are able to make the surprise as they have shown in their home games during the preliminaries of Euro 2008 when they won Republic of Ireland (5-2) and managed a draw against Germany (1-1).
This first game will be a test for Cyprus. Although a loss against Italy is natural, any other result will be a psychological boost for the Cypriots that will help them in their effort to reach the final phase of the World Cup that will be held in South Africa in 2010.
