Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Soloists
The Cyprus Suite by Nicos Vichas is a series of Cypriot dance folk songs, contrapuntally elaborated by the composer to express the optimism and valiance of Cypriot people. Martinů’s distinguished Concerto for oboe and orchestra, premiered at the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne, features an optimistic first movement, a mysterious and haunting middle one and a spirited finale. In Spohr’s charming, early romantic Concertο for string quartet, the four instruments, uncommonly assuming the role of soloists, engage in exciting musical discourse and display. Savvas Savva’s Adagio for strings is part of a Trilogy, written in tribute to a friend who was prematurely lost in a car accident.
