Don't forget '74
Lambrakis Team, a group of young people summoned and coordinated by the poet Stavros Lambrakis, present the exhibition titled “Don’t forget ’74”. The exhibition’s theme is an expression of a critical voice against social and ethical dereliction of the recent historical violence that took place in Cyprus that culminated in the Turkish invasion of 1974.
Lambrakis Team reacts to the decadent socio-political interpretations that undermine the events of 1974 and produce neo-Cypriots with a distorted memory. A kind of memory that implicitly legitimizes the current status quo and which excuses superficiality and materialistic trade-offs. The exhibition is also a reaction to indifference towards social inequality and racism, as well as to consumerism and its concurrent tendency for easy socio-political solutions.
The exhibition takes place at an old preserved house within the walled city of Nicosia. It is comprised of visual artworks, videoclip projections, installations and conceptual works.
The organizers invite everyone to visit the exhibition; to dedicate a small amount of time to see the artworks and also show their commitment to a better ethos that these artworks call for. To commemorate justice.
