Dimitrios Ikonomou: Alasia
Gallery Gloria presents Dimitrios Ikonomou's exhibition titled "Alasia". The opening will take place on Friday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m.
Originating from the topography of the island, the exhibition attempts to outline a portrait of Cyprus. Using indigenous copper as raw material, the process of crafting the works evolves using the island’s climate: the coloring of the copper is achieved as the material is exposed to air and the sun. The end result is a conversation of the works with their environment, material with their place of formation, interpretation, and at the same time, a reflection of their original source.
Dimitrios IKonomou was born in 1989 in the United States of America. He studied History of Art and Creative Writing at Brown University in the United States and Industrial Design at the Umea Institute of Design in Umea, Sweden. After completing his studies, he worked as a sculptor at the workshop of Piet Hein Eek in Eindhoven in the Netherlands. He lives and works in Nicosia. This is his second solo exhibition.
The exhibition opens on Friday 12 May 2017 and will remain open until 31 May.
