Dimitrios Tsouris - My Island is Blue
Gloria Gallery invites you to the painting exhibition of Dimitrios Tsouris with title ‘My Island is Blue’.
The opening will take place on Friday 15th of September at 7.30 pm.
Dimitrios Tsouris has been an archaeological illustrator for the Department of Antiquities of the University of Cyprus for many years. He has now swapped his technical pens for brushes and began painting in oils. The Cypriot landscape, villages, mountains and history all go to inspire his imagination in lucid gestural marks of bold colour. He comments:
“The mind, the heart, are perhaps the most valuable assets an artist possesses. To be able to absorb and lay down in paint how you feel on standing on windswept mountains, cathedral embedded forests or acres of long sweeping countryside, gilded in trees, and long vista plains, together with making visible the unseen presence, the feel and smell of the earth beneath your feet in which you walk, is a dramatic and invigorating task master that drives relentlessly and passionately pursuance manifested in oils, paint and canvas”.
Dimitrios Tsouris was born in Nicosia, Cyprus. He studied at Ruskin Hall, Bourneville School of Art, Birmingham, England and he has been a full-time contemporary visual artist since 1980 with his studio in Exeter, UK. His main body of work is inspired from traditional Greek Orthodox iconography, the notion of ‘presence’ which he continues to employ within his own modern icons and abstract work. His work has much influence from the Abstract Expressionist of the 1940s New York. He has participated in multiple group and solo exhibitions in UK galleries and cathedrals as well as in Cyprus, Italy, Holland and Greece. He now lives and works in both Cyprus and England.
The exhibition will open on the 15th of September and will remain open until the 30th of September 2017.
