Distant Land
A new work by Machi Demetriadou-Lindahl based on the same title poem by the Swedish poet Gunnar Ekelof
Distant Land is the one we have left but is simultaneously here. The body becomes the place, the person is the country.
Distant Land - a dance piece about the traveler
"The piece is inspired by the Swedish philleline poet Gunnar Ekelof's
poem " distant land ", which supports the dance scenes like an undercurrent pulse.
Through the dance, the image and the music we are transferred to landscapes of memory and time, metaphysical or concrete, to the detailed landscape of the moving bodies of the dancers.
Distant Land for me is both the place and the utopia that the traveler seeks.
Sometimes can be a flash of childhood, a place, a voice, a face, people we met...all that memory selects in a long voyage and finally we turn inwards to find with the insight an identity.
Distant land becomes the one we left but is always here. It is the one that springs forth through the images of the memory, through language and gesture.
The body is the place. The man is the land"
