Diversity Arts Festival
The University of Nicosia’s 1st “Diversity Arts Festival” will celebrate the island’s diversity in arts and cultures on Thursday, 10 October 2013. The Festival’s tripartite programme will consist of academic presentations, an art exhibition, and musical performances by artists living on the island.
Giorgos Moleskis, President of the Union for Cyprus Writers, Anber Onar, co-founder of Sidestreets Educational and Cultural Initiatives, Elizabeth Hoak-Doering, Associate Professor in the Department of Design and Multimedia at the University of Nicosia, Michael Hadjimichael, Associate Professor in the Department of Communications at the University of Nicosia, and Stavros Karayanni, Associate Professor in the Department of Humanities at European University Cyprus, will each present on diversity and the arts in Cyprus. The Festival’s Panel Discussion is scheduled for 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the UNESCO Amphitheatre. Panel moderator is Paul Stewart, Professor in the Department of Languages at the University of Nicosia.
The Diversity Art and Design Exhibition will feature paintings, photographs, posters, installations and videos by the students of the Department of Design and Multimedia, University of Nicosia. It will take place at the University’s Art and Design Studio, between 8:00pm and 10:00pm.
Batukinio, Haji Mike and Med Dred, Peter Attah, Pinky, Monsieur Doumani, and Wanderlust will take the stage afterwards, at the Open Amphitheatre, from 9:00pm to 11:45pm.
Entrance to the Diversity Arts Festival is free and open to the public. Beer sponsor is Aphrodite’s Rock Brewing Company, while snacks (including samosas, pirozki, lahmajoun and vegetable skewers) prepared by the Millennium Cafeteria will be made available at affordable prices. The official Media Sponsor is Super FM Radio.
The Diversity Arts Festival is organized by The Cyprus Center for Intercultural Studies, in collaboration with the University of Nicosia’s Department of Student Affairs and Department of Design and Multimedia.
