DKQ - Dimitris Kakavoulis Quartet

The group performs only compositions by Dimitris Kakavoulis which are based on his approach to music as an oral tradition and as a new way of looking at the basic forms of improvised music. Taking as their starting point the sounds and logic of jazz, the members of the quartet artfully combine elements of afro, funk, Latin, Brazilian and spiritual jazz. The musicians currently making up the group tend towards a more rhythmic and dance style than traditional, more academically inclined jazz groups.

The group’s sounds move effortlessly between many diverse influences: from the afro-American tradition to African, Latin-American and Greek and even more modern styles and genres such as funk and New York jazz.
