Dragon Boat Challenge 2012

The theme of the challenge is “paddle for life”. It will be a charity event and will primarily serve to raise awareness and funds for the anti-leukemia association “ΖΩΗ”. It will be held at the Famagusta Nautical Club in Limassol on the 14th of July 2012 at 13:00.

For your information, the anti-leukemia association in Nicosia voluntarily provides medical equipment to the general hospitals in Nicosia, as well as Limassol and Paphos. It consists of a delegation of volunteers who are very active in raising money through sponsors, donating companies, self-made products such as candles and organization of various charity events. Through the collected money, the association is able to financially support leukemia patients from Cyprus who are sent to Israel for special treatment, as well for bone marrow transplantation.

We, as Rotaract Berengaria Cosmopolitan feel committed to help our community in every possible way. Our obligation to help and our gratitude towards the above mentioned association’s difficult task will be reflected through the organization of the Dragon Boat Challenge. All funds which will be raised on the day of the event will be used to finance chemotherapy equipment and presented to the association.

We expect attendance of the event to be very high, especially since all funds will be donated for a good cause. Additionally, the Dragon Boat Challenge will be used by many companies as a team building event, requiring good coordination skills, fine communication between team members, disciplined team work, determination and effective cooperation. Furthermore, the sport promotes competition at a high level and is ideal for companies and organizations that encourage and develop such values.

The basic idea of a dragon boat race is to provide up to 20 participants, preferably employees of the company. These will fill up 1 dragon boat and will paddle, challenging an opponent dragon boat on a distance of 250 meters. Each team will be able to prove itself at least twice. The wining team will qualify to the next level. The champion of the event will be decorated with a trophy and the company´s name will be engraved upon it. We are already recruiting teams and the group stages are being drawn up.
