Electra, Pancyprian Gymnasium
In the framework of the cooperation between the Cultural Center of the University of Cyprus and the Pancyprian Gymnasium, the Axiothea Mansion is hosting a performance of Euripides’ “Electra”, which the students of the older and historic secondary school in Cyprus prepared with much effort and commitment, but also with remarkable professionalism.
“Our goal was to bring young people in touch with ancient tragedy and motivate them to see it through their own fresh perspective. And as it often happens, our young people surprised us pleasantly yet again. The ancient text really inspired them to create. The enthusiasm with which they worked surpassed all expectations. Their ambition was to show that the young generation lives through its predecessors, but also that the older generation has no continuity without the young.
To achieve this, they introduced some innovations, remaining faithful to the ancient text, and thus proved that old and new can indeed co-exist in harmony.
Since the birth of the first melody, we all lived unforgettable moments. Experiences so unique that we no longer minded the fatigue and the sacrifices we had to make. It was a magical journey that was worth all the efforts.” Excerpt from the Director’s note
