Europe in Action 2011
Family Action for the Inclusion of People with Intellectual Disabilities in Society
Inclusion Europe’s most important annual conference, Europe in Action, will take place in Larnaca, Cyprus, 12-14 May 2011.
The conference will focus on the action that governments, local authorities, families, volunteers and self-advocates will need to take in order to create inclusive communities.
International speakers will analyse how national governments can apply the United Nation Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Local authorities will discuss how inclusive disability planning at local level can be improved.
Importantly, self-advocates from Cyprus and the rest of Europe will be participating in training groups to train their peers.
And as 2011 is the European Year for Volunteering, the crucial importance of volunteer involvement in creating inclusive communities will also be discussed.
One special focus of the conference will be on the contribution that the method of Personal Future Planning can provide to planning activities and for people with intellectual disabilities. International experts will introduce the method and provide opportunities for in-depth discussion in various working groups.
The conference is co-organised by the Pancyprian Parents Association for People with Mental Handicap and Inclusion Europe. It is supported by the Cyprian Committee for the Protection of the Rights of People with Mental Handicap.
