Exploring Art and Space: Creative Artists and Educators from the Middle East, South Asia and the United States collaborate with local theatre artists and practitioners of TheatrEtc. and Rooftop Theatre Group.

Participants and staff members of the first Seeds of Peace New Visions for Peace Fellowship, Cypriot theatre artists and practitioners of TheatrEtc. and Rooftop Theatre Group, cordially invite you to a presentation of the artistic work of the Fellows on Wednesday, July 1, in Nicosia at 19:00. Meeting area: Outside the Home for Cooperation, Ledra Palas.

The presentation is a product of the work carried out over a two-day workshop of the Fellows with local artists from Rooftop Theatre and TheatrEtc, through new international methods for exploring, researching and incorporating aspects of landscape and community. The Fellows are Palestinian, Israeli, Indian, Pakistani and American educators and artists who lead initiatives with the exceptional potential to contribute to the transformation of conflict in their societies and to a more just, more humane future.

At this event in Nicosia they will have a chance to share their own ideas with the audience and become closely involved with the space, thus proposing new artistic interventions during the presentation. This is a rare opportunity for lively interaction with such different perspectives. It is a rare chance for mutual learning and it promises to be enjoyable, too. Attendance is free of charge.

TheatrETC:
TheatrEtc. consists of a group of arts practitioners and educators who have come together in their common interest in developing initiatives that promote the use of the expressive arts in social and cultural settings. It supports the involvement of and collaboration between arts practitioners, artists and educators in creative approaches that deal with everyday people, of any background, and issues that might concern them on an educational and cultural level. TheatrEtc. has been active since the beginning of 2010 and its members are open to any ideas, thoughts and suggestions towards channeling group and individual contributions in projects concerning ways to address contemporary Cypriot realities with a creative drive.

Rooftop Theatre Group:
The Rooftop Theatre Group, formed by theatre enthusiasts and professionals from communities in Cyprus following the opening of the checkpoints in 2003, is working to face the challenges of a changing culture and society on the island. The Group attempts to achieve this by enacting through dialogue, theatre and performance an exploration of personal and cultural identity and of the insights, skills and possibilities needed to live in a multicultural society. Through its activities, outreach programs local/international collaborations, the Group aims to help bridge the gap and heal the conflict between communities.
