Famagusta is Waiting

Peter’s Gallery cordially invites you to Vasoula Frangeskou’s & Eleni Maria Frangeskou’s exhibition titled “FAMAGUSTA IS WAITING”.

Opening night at Peter’s Gallery on Friday, May 6, 2016, at 8:00 pm.

“FAMAGUSTA IS WAITING” is a collaboration project that started in 2009 with the subject of the town of Famagusta. The two artists were very interested with the notions of personal but also public memory and nostalgia.

On one hand, Eleni’s work has more of a documentation and archival character. On the other hand Vasoula’s work is more of a series of emotional expression.

Each artist wanted to express their own personal experience with the town of Famagusta. There is a very strong contrast between the two bodies of work as each artist, although having the mother and daughter relationship, have very different judgements, maturity, observations, struggles as well as contact with the town. Therefore, Eleni’s documentation work is seeking understanding of the situation as opposed to Vasoula’s work that is facing a refusal of the situation, so for this reason they both feel like each work compliments the other.

The exhibition works will be displayed at the Peter’s Gallery art space, in Limassol (31 Ioanni Polemi street, opposite the Peter & Paul church) from Friday, May 6 until Saturday, May 14, 2016 (10:00 - 13:00, 16:00 - 18:30).
