“Fête de la musique 2013” and French Street Theater company “Compagnie du Bout des Doigts”.
The French Institute in Cyprus in collaboration with the Nicosia Municipality will organize, the “Fête de la Musique 2013” also known worldwide as Music Day.
Launched in 1982 by the French Ministry of Culture, the “Fête de la Musique” is held in more than one hundred countries in Europe and all over the world. It takes place every year on 21st June, the day of the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere.
Completely different from any other music festival, the “Fête de la Musique” is above all a free and popular music festival open to all participants (both amateur or professional musicians) who wants to perform on this occasion. This Music Day actively promotes the expression of all kinds of music in a cheerful atmosphere.
This year’s celebration will highlight various genres including: Jazz, Pop, Rock, percussion, traditional music, beguine, choir…. Eight groups will perform. The “Fête de la Musique” will begin at 7:30pm in the Phaneromeni Area, Nicosia, on Friday 21st June, 2013.
During the festival, an outstanding street theatre show, "The Time of the Seasons" will be performed by the French street theatre company, the “Compagnie du Bout des Doigts” (on the fingertip). Six artists wearing colourful costumes will be parading on stilts on the rythm of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. . There will be two performances. The first part of the programme will begin at 7:00 pm. The “Compangnie du Bout des Doigts” will start the show from Freedom Square, then proceed to Ledra Street and end its performance in the Phaneromeni Area. The second part of the programme will take place later in the evening.
