Flat 102
The play follows a group of neighbors from different countries, sharing a building. 'A, the main character, is a Cypriot young woman. She is pregnant, single, and lives with her cat in Flat 102. Next door in Flat 103 lives a loving Jewish couple, in Flat 101 a Greek student with obsessive-compulsive-disorder and in the flat above recently arrived a Polish boxer-economic migrant. 'A is not fond of her neighbors and prefers to keep a distance. The question that rises is, how easy is it to keep a distance when only separated by a thin wall? Privacy becomes practically no existent, and people end up observing one another.
The performance is about the lack of privacy in modern multicultural cities, and the distance people keep from one another driven by xenophobia and stereotypes. It touches on racism and prejudice that come out as a result of ignorance and concludes on how all these behaviors change when life brings people together.
The unique character of this performance is its experimental mise en scene.
The only character performing on stage is 'A and all the neighbors will either be heard or appear on screen through audio or video recordings. The scenery is minimalistic, their will be no props, and all sounds will be either created artificially, live, or pre-produced by the Music Producer/Sound Designer, who will be performing and interacting with the basic Performer on stage.
The Performance is part of theYard.Residency.14 Old Vinegar Factory Residencies which is organized by MITOS Center of Performing Arts.
