Flute & Piano Recital

Cyprus : Flute & Piano Recital

The Pharos Arts Foundation with the kind support of the Australian High Commission presents a recital with one of Australia’s most talented young flutists, Ana de la Vega, who will appear for the first time in Cyprus. Ana will join forces with Romanian pianist Irina Botan in a programme of works by Faure, J.S. Bach, Saint-Saens, Chopin, Dutilleux, Widor & Nigel Edwards.

ANA DE LA VEGA / flute
With a string of international engagements, principal positions in orchestras across Europe, and a talent for discovering lost works, Australian flautist Ana de la Vega is an exciting and intriguing voice on the classical music scene. Ana’s recent discovery of a flute concerto by the Czech composer, Josef Myslivecek, a close friend and mentor of Mozart, made the headlines in the UK. Her Premier performance of the concerto with the English Chamber Orchestra at the Cadogan Hall in London was broadcast on BBC Radio 3, made ‘Critics’ Choice” in London’s Timeout magazine, and was reviewed in the BBC Music Magazine and Gig Magazine.

Ana has held principal positions with the EPK Europa Philharmonie in Baden-Wurttenberg in Germany and the Philharmonie der Nationen in Hamburg. Recently she won the position of Principal Flute with the Britten-Pears World Festival Orchestra in the U.K. She was initially a student of the University of Sydney studying under Margaret Crawford, before furthering her studies privately in Australia with Jane Rutter. Ana then moved to France to study her masters at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris, under Catherine Cantin, Phillipe Pierlot and Raymond Guiot.

IRINA BOTAN / piano
The Romanian pianist Irina Botan commenced her studies at the Dinu Lipatti music school in Bucharest. In 1996 Irina was awarded a full scholarship in order to study at the Yehudi Menuhin School. From 2000 she was the recipient of a full scholarship from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she completed her Bachelor and Masters degrees.

Irina's performances throughout the UK have included numerous concerts at the Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Purcell Room, Covent Garden, Fairfield Halls, Conway Hall, St. John Smith Square, Snape Maltings, Millenium Centre (Cardiff), St. James' Palace and Windsor Castle. She was broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and BBC TV. Outside Britain, Irina performed in Italy, Holland, France, Japan, Austria, Germany, Romania and USA, where her performances included a televised concert at the World Bank in Washington D.C. on CBS. In Paris, Irina played for the fiftieth anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights at the UNESCO Headquarters. In Romania, Irina performed extensively in major concert halls including the Atheneum and the Radio Hall. She collaborated with the National Radio Orchestra and the Bucharest Virtuosi. Many performances were broadcast on national TV and Radio. A keen chamber musician, Irina is a member of the Erato Piano Trio and co-director of the newly formed London International Players as well as cofounder of the Highgate International Chamber Music Festival. Future engagements include a debut solo CD on Toccata Classics label and tours in USA, Egypt, Lebanon and Turkey.
