Lellos Art Point is proud to present the new group exhibition: "From figure to abstraction: A Journey through Colour, Abundant Sensations & Otherworldly Beauty”. The exhibition brings together five artists whose artistic work, even though might seem unfamiliar with one another at the first glance, when married together within the same space manifests, creating a dreamy journey from figuration to abstraction. Similar elements such as the desire for fantasy, the exploration of a multitude of emotions and sensations, the theatricality, the dynamism, the sensitivity, thread the works together in an energetic bond, which pulsates and prompts the visitors to intelligibly interact with the pieces.
Christos Michlis paints his models in indoor spaces using bold dramatic lighting, reminiscent of a setting with a very specific scenario. He interprets the figure like a spectator interpreters a play or a movie while still watching it. Even though Michlis’s humans avoid facing the viewer, the connection one creates with them is electric, as if one is next to them in the same small room which does not seem to be placed within real time and place. The figures with the strong, prominent noses exude an unsettlingly beautiful melancholia.
With colour being the centrepiece of his work, George Heracleous is taking us on a journey, allowing us to take a look in his subconscious while he is marrying reality with illusion with an unprecedented lyricism. The artist is strongly connected with the physical act of painting; his artistic work is about pace and tempo, using drips and marks in ways that are not just decorative. The paintings are charged with raw sensitivity and give off a delicate atmosphere through which personal memories and emotional experiences are frequently recalled.
Gregory Grozos is inspired by nature, everyday life, history, technology and the traditional philosophy of Falun Gong. For this exhibition, he has created a series of extremely detailed miniature drawings. His painstaking style belongs to the tradition of magical realism. He builds multiple layers of meaning and signification into his intricate works, while he sets out to explore the endless potential of art, as a way to create exciting and wondrous impossibilities and stimulate the imagination of his audience.
Through her work, Ria Alexandrou investigates the structure of space and time, through stratifications, textures, lines and patterns. It feels similar to the way we experience information today. This idea of strata, of layers of images seen through time, of images within images, it’s like the way we see the world through computers: not as a single reality, but many realities at the same time. The works cause the viewer to sometimes invoke before the logic, and sometimes the emotional, thinking.
Vito Xenodochides perceives his art as an emotional dialogue between himself and the viewer. Through this painting ritual, he creates abstract compositions that inspire a variety of images and emotions. He applies the acrylic paint using a plethora of tools - among those, his bare hands - somehow managing to tame and mix the colours with an incredibly sensitive and subtle manner. With his unique technique, he cancels the classic characteristics of acrylic, depositing it on canvas with an unprecedented fluidity and constant motion.
