Szczepan Kończal graduated from the Academy of Music in Katowice, Prof. Józef Stompel’s class.
Semi-finalist of the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw (2005, WFIMC), prize-winner of international piano competitions in: Tbilisi (3rd Prize, 2009, WFIMC), Pretoria (6th, 2008, WFIMC), Lisbon – Vianna da Motta (5th, 2007, WFIMC), Milan (1st, 2010), Laurignano (1st, 2011), Timisoara (1st, 2011), Frascati (1st, 2012), Lissone (1st, 2013), Caraglio (1st, 2014), Takasaki (2nd, 2001), Oslo – Concours Grieg (2nd, 2008), Verona (2nd, 2012), Kerikeri (2nd, 2012), Sibiu (2nd, 2016), Campillos (3rd, 2009). Finalist in Tallinn (2006). Triple laureate of the National Chopin Competitions in Warsaw (2003, 2004, 2005). Earlier he won 1st prizes in several piano competitions for youth (in Antonin, Zabrze, Siedlce, Poznań, Gorzów Wielkopolski, Stalowa Wola).
He participated in festivals in Poland (Duszniki, Warsaw, Słupsk, Łódź, Wrocław, Katowice) and abroad (Nohant, Kuressaare, Oeiras, Locarno, Milan, Istanbul, Izmir, Tbilisi).
He performed with such orchestras as Sinfonia Varsovia, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Polish Radio National Symphony Orchestra, Turkish Presidential Symphony Orchestra, Orquestra Gulbenkian, and such conductors as: Antoni Wit, Tadeusz Strugała, Marek Pijarowski, Jerzy Swoboda, Michał Klauza, Michał Dworzyński, Andres Mustonen, Arjan Tien, Peter Csaba.
During master-classes he worked with Dang Thai Son, Peter Donohoe, Victor Merzhanov, Bernard Ringeissen, Lee Kum Sing, John Perry, Andrzej Jasiński, Krzysztof Jabłoński, Krystian Zimerman.
He received scholarships from the Ministry of Culture (on six occassions), Prime Minister, Polish Children’s Fund as well as the ”Młoda Polska” award.
He has appeared at many venues in 17 European countries as well as in South Africa, Egypt, Australia, New Zealand, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, China, Japan and Canada.
