The Garden of Rila
Artist and musicologist Martha Mavroidi, a young researcher of Balkan music and an outstanding performer whom the friends of Axiothea got to know through her collaboration with Himerini Kolymvites and Savina Yannatou, presents her first album with her own compositions based on a distinct and thought-out dialog with Balkan music.
Balkan means mountain. Rila is the highest mountain of the Balkan Peninsula. There, hidden in the lavishly green forests, one can find a secluded monastery. It is its quiet courtyard that inspiration for eleven new songs, which talk about the place, its views, its people and their personal histories and musical traditions. Together with the songs on the album, Martha Mavroidi and her musicians will take us on a musical journey to different areas of the Balkans.
