George Georgiou (clarinet) - Gergana Georgieva (piano)
As part of its Cyprus Artists Series, the Pharos Arts Foundation presents the dynamic Georgiou-Georgieva Duo, comprising clarinettist George Georgiou and pianist Gergana Georgieva. Recognised as one of the most active and energetic Cypriot musicians, Georgiou has appeared as a soloist in Cyprus and abroad, and he has been praised for his performances both on the classical and the contemporary repertoire. Georgiou is a Fratelli Patricola Clarinet Artist, a Silverstein Ligature Artist and a Marca Reeds Artist, and in his quest for new repertoire for clarinet, he has embarked on numerous collaborations with esteemed contemporary composers from all over the world, becoming the dedicatee of a great number of new compositions. Bulgarian-born pianist Gergana Georgieva is a graduate of the National Music Academy of Sofia “Pancho Vladigerov”. With highly revered performances in the piano concertos of Prokofiev, Mozart, Beethoven and Schumann, Georgieva has moved to Cyprus in 2008, where she is actively continuing her performing and teaching career. For their concert on Tuesday 2 April 2019 at The Shoe Factory, Nicosia / 8:30pm, the Georgiou-Georgieva Duo will perform a very special programme of works by Brahms, Debussy and Julian Menendez, as well as two world premieres by contemporary composers – the distinguished Cypriot composer Christina Athinodorou and the Czech composer Lenka Nota.
