Painting exhibition by George Georgiou
George Georgiou's current exhibition is a continuation of the work presented in 2009. The theme of the exhibition revolves around the Cypriot landscape and people. The magical element of nature is depicted using clear colors and assertive strokes alongside the blue Mediterranean sky. Through the artwork of this exhibition, the artist is trying to hold on to the values of our cultural tradition, but is also aware of the stifling environment within which the traditional values of popular culture are being crushed.
“George Georgiou continues to converse with tradition, to compose on canvas a “mosaic” of the people of Cyprus, the elements of our culture that is slowly being lost, the sweet memory of a past that is fading more and more, but “nests” in our souls reminding us of our identity....”
Dr. George V. Georgiou, Linguist, Visiting Professor of Linguistics at the University of Athens
