Giannis Koutis - Stand Alone Project

A live performance with the Cypriot musician Giannis Koutis.

Giannis Koutis was born in 1985 in Nicosia, Cyprus. Since his young age he has been playing music professionally. The last years he started performing as a soloist (oud , voice) in several music clubs. He forms a personal way of approach with a purely acoustic sound which is often filtered through the sound of today. A sound more electric and dynamic is being created, using a palette of effects sometimes on oud and sometimes on voice but always maintaining its musical integrity. Music varies from classical Arabic to modern western. The voice leads the instrument or is leaded by it in traditional roads, with the element of improvisation playing a key role not only in his compositions but in other composers’ interpretations as well.
