The Gifts of the Friends

As the holiday season is approaching and on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the establishment of the Association of the Friends of The Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, we are proud to present “The Gifts of the Friends”. These are gifts which represent moments from the life of our city, gifts which represent the everyday life and social development of Nicosia, gifts which belong to us all, since they speak of the history of our city. These are the Gifts of The Association of The Friends of The Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia.

In 1986, long before the Leventis Municipal Museum opened its doors, the Association of the Friends of the Museum was established. Its aim was to assist in the work of establishing and promoting the Museum as well as promoting knowledge of the history of Nicosia. Another important goal was to contribute to the enrichment of the Museum’s collections.

This goal has been fulfilled: the Friends have contributed significantly to the Museum’s collections. Through their financial and other assistance, the Museum has acquired objects covering the entire spectrum of the history and social evolution of Nicosia from antiquity to the present day. A large number of these objects are displayed in our permanent exhibition galleries. But also a large number of objects are kept in our storage rooms. From these objects, we have selected the “Gifts” that we will be presented in “The Pandoras’ Box” and in the window display at 15 Hippocrates street.

The 1st part of the exhibition “CITY-Friends” in “The Pandoras’ Box” will include a projection of all the “Gifts” offered by the “Friends” since the establishment of the Association. The 2nd part of the exhibition “The Gifts of the Friends” in the window display at 15 Hippocrates street, will present mainly “Gifts” which have been purchased recently and have not yet taken their place in the Museum’s permanent exhibition rooms.
