Glafkos Koumides "Dalient Essence"
Glafkos Koumides is an important artist who expresses himself equally successfully through the medium of the written word. He creates either paintings or constructions having as their basis primitive symbols, chosen as much for their visual shape as for their semiological content. With his point of departure being contemporary visual interpretation of ecclesiastical Byzantine furniture (stool, donors), from features of Cypriot society (‘kazanti’) and folk lore, the artist makes his own mark concerning the spiritual and symbolic content of a social system.
