Greece: crossroads of two worlds
The piano of the east meets the piano of the west
The central element of this musical performance is the music of Greece from the 1920s until today. Known and “unknown” music pieces of a different time will be heard through the sweet melodies of one piano and one santur, accompanied by one voice, which in its turn will express the joy, the pain, the mirth and the emotion as recorded by Greek lyricists. This melodic tour through the Greek musical paths is accompanied by short narrative connecting texts unfolding the memories of an old man, linking, in essence, the musical paths with the alleys of famous Greek civilisation centres, which stood as guardians of the Greek musical tradition and historic memory. This route throughout Greek music is also supported by visual material which is relevant to the content and the places of origin of the songs. It is about how different elements – from West to East – were introduced and eventually shaped what we call “Greek musical cultural inheritance”. This amalgam is the core characteristic of the music of this place, which, as a crossroads of the world, came to be a crucible of styles, giving birth to its own unique style: Greek music.
