Greetings from Israel

Cyprus : Greetings from Israel

We are delighted to announce our upcoming concert ‘Greetings from Israel’ that will take place at the Archontiko Technon (ARTE) on Monday, 5 December 2011 at 20:00. The concert is dedicated to music inspired by the Israeli Music Tradition and it features the Cyprus based Amiche String Quartet clarinettist George Georgiou and pianist Agata Jozwik. The concert is organised by the ‘Friends of ARTE Society’ in collaboration with the Israeli Embassy in Cyprus and it is coordinated by DueCapi.

The ‘Friends of ARTE Society’ is a non profit cultural organisation that promotes several events in order to give a new prospective into the cultural scene of Cyprus. The society gives opportunities to several young artists (painters, musicians, actors etc) to present their work and also combines together different genres bringing together all different forms of Art. So far, it has hosted some very important personalities such as the pianist Martino Tirimo and the poet Thomas Transtromer.

The Amiche String Quartet had its debut at the Pancyprian Festival of Contemporary Composers and has been active as a quartet since then. All four members are versatile musicians who for years have actively participated in the cultural life of Cyprus taking part in nearly all major music events, either with solo performances or in chamber ensembles. The name of the group comes from the Italian language and it means ‘friends’ and this is how the quartet wants to be known. The quartet is formed by violinists Ayse Karaoglan and Anna Zebranowska; violist Ewa Bartmann and cellist Miranda Papaneokleus. The Cypriot clarinettist George Georgiou has been active in Cyprus and abroad with solo concerts and recitals in Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Ireland, USA and UK. He is clarinettist in residence at the Avaton Contemporary Music Festival (Limassol) as well as the founder and artistic director of Cyprus Clarinet Studio. Agata Jozwik, a native from Poland, moved to Cyprus in 2003 where she is working as a piano instructor and a free-lance pianist. She appeared in concerts organized by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, Cyprus Clarinet Studio, Pharos Trust, European University and the Center of Cypriot Composers.

The Programme for this concert will be:
