A Haircut Story

The Cypriot documentary film 'A Haircut Story', produced and directed by Danae Stylianou, is screening for the first time in Pafos, on February 25th at 8.30 p.m. at Technopolis 20 Cultural Centre.

Following the dramatic events, which took place in Cyprus in March 2013, with the haircut of deposits, the documentary narrates seven different stories, as they emerge from the black hole of the banks. Depositors that were immediately affected by the haircut, along with other citizens share their own unique story of economic crisis and their personal accounts of the consequences of this unprecedented economic measure.

Synopsis:
In March 2013, Cyprus became the first Eurozone member state to be subjected to a bail-in on deposits, as a means to rescue the island's problematic banks. Depositors of the two largest banks of the island experienced a dramatic haircut of their life savings. In this documentary, seven stories emerge from the black hole of the banks.

The Production Team:
Produced, directed and edited by Danae Stylianou. Michael Kalopedis is the director of photography, while the sound design of the film was executed by Marcos Papageorgiou. Economist Petros Kosmas was the content supervisor and text writer while psychologist – social researcher Alexandros Lordos was a scientific advisor to the project. The soundtrack of the film is a compilation of music tracks by local and international artists such as, Monsieur Doumani, Antonis Antoniou, Lefteris Moumdjis, Trio Tekke, Aris RSN, Konstantinos Vita, Marina Satti, Cayetano. Motion graphics & animation produced by Zedem Media. Narrated by voice-over artist Aris Gerontakis.

Director's Bio:
Danae Stylianou was born in Limassol, in 1984. She studied BA(Hons) Film Production at the University of Westminster in London, from where she graduated in 2004. She directed three short films since, while in 2011 she directed and produced her first documentary feature film, 'Sharing an island', about the inter-communal relations of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot youth. 'Sharing an island' was screened widely in Cyprus and abroad, winning two awards for its contribution to peace in Cyprus and the world. The director is mainly interested in sociopolitical subjects, which she records through the personal experiences of the people and groups appearing in her films. She worked as assistant director and casting director in Greek cinema and television, in popular TV dramas, shows, films and TV commercials. 'A Haircut Story', is her second documentary feature film.
