Hetairos
Hetairos finds Achilles torn between sorrow and narcissism, duty and lust. The actor-Achilles is recording and being recorded on stage. Suspending spatiotemporality right at the moment when in Iliad he is presented with his new arms, masterfully crafted by Ephaestus, the glorious warrior/artist positions himself at the heart of contemporary visual culture. The nude body of Patroclus, prey to insects, reptiles and dogs, challenges and invites Achilles, in the midst of atrocious warfare and the certainty of death, to pursue his fundamental right to grieve of his deceased companion, his hetairos.
Stripped of euphemisms and connotations, the original dramatic monologue revisits Greek poetry from ancient to contemporary years, laying the ground for a multi-faceted performance that unapologetically unearths the queerness of us all.
