Himerini Kolymvites

Cyprus : Himerini Kolymvites

Familiar, yet always new, “Himerini Kolymvites” (The Winter Swimmers) return to Axiothea and to their growing community of Cypriot fans to present as many songs as the evening would bring or the audience would request to hear. Songs about love, loneliness, fleeting images, memorable moments among friends and the magic of the night, all seen through the vigil historical and social consciousness of the band’s members.

Those who have seen them perform know that each of their concerts is a musical event of its own, never the same as it is being created “on the spot” with the participation of the audience.

Everywhere they play, “Himerini Kolymvites” leave a lasting impression not only with their music, which combines traditional and creative elements brought together by a team of excellent musicians, but also with the enjoyable, warm and genuine atmosphere, which these unique artists create with their audience.

An exceptional case of a music band, “Himerini Kolymvites” first appeared back in 1979, creating an original style, which introduced a peculiar outlook on music and a whole new approach that has been followed since by many new bands and independent music producers.
A group of accomplished musicians meets the singer but also the man Argyris Bakirtzis who with his interventions, comments and stories about the inspiration behind each song, creates a unique mood and encourages the audience to participate spontaneously in the performance.

In their 33 years on the Greek music scene, “Himerini Kolymvites” have produced songs that are distinguished for their vigour, enthusiasm, tenderness, passion but also melancholy. A small recipe for life.
