I.D Euro - Multicult 2012
The purpose of the visual project “ID Euro-Multicult 2012”, being presented in Limassol by the Pegasus Art Foundation, is to expand on the idea and issues of Multi – culture Pluralism.The program will run from 13 September-13 October 2012.
Pluralism, in a multicultural society, is the desire amongst people to express and maintain their own social identity brought over from their own country of origin. In actual fact, multicultural societies are created in co-existence with other social groups being formed by various nationalities and cultural backgrounds thus creating ethnic diversity; respect, acceptance, promotion of civilisations are prerequisites for a multicultural society. Interactions of cultures provide opportunities for the cultural differences to communicate and interact.
The aim of our program is the creation of a communication platform among artists of various nationalities and social backgrounds asking them to express and capture the idea which, in a nutshell, is the European Identity. Artists are being asked to use different medium and experiment different techniques in order to capture in their creations the advocacy of equal respect to the various cultures in a society, to a policy of promoting the maintenance of cultural diversity.
The Pegasus Art Foundation has chosen not to involve the artists in a political debate or propaganda around the notion of a political european identity, nor to involve them in issues of immediate european citizenship problems and stated the issues in an indirect way, positively facing and acknowledging the multiphase and versatility, the multiculturalism with the use of various pictures; historic, traditional and technological.
Based on the above the Pegasus Art Foundation has set the base of discussion around the subject of ‘The European Identity’.
The art exhibition’s scope is to involve the crowds in a debate with the Artists. This will take place during a cultural soiree at the ART STUDIO 55 towards the end of November.
The Pegasus Art Foundation is the organising body acting as the link between the debate and the presentation of the works of Art.
