Im Winter ein Jahr (A Year ago in Winter)
The film focuses on the relationship between the painter Hollander and Lilli, who sits for a double portrait which her parents commissioned. The portrait is to be ready on the first anniversary of their son’s death who did not die due to an accident, as they claimed, but who committed suicide. In a sincere, discreet and touching way, with overwhelming images, Caroline Link describes how the façade of a family is crumbling and Lilli as well as her parents start to cope with their tragic loss. “A Year ago in Winter” is characterized by some critics as the most beautiful, honest and moving German film of the year 2008.
