The in laws from Tirana
What do you do when your daughter tells you that the love of her life is Albanian? Are we racist? Are we greedy? Or are we just foolish?
Peni and Likurgos are a well-off couple who live in a large provincial town of central Greece. Their only child, Liza, is studying in London. It seems that all their problems have been solved. They live a life of nouveau riche luxury, and their dream is, off course, to see their daughter marry a good husband. Living next door in a similar state of prosperity is Peni’s sister, Polina , and her husband, Vasilis . A few days before Easter, Liza arrives from London with her boyfriend, Alfred , a young student she has met in London. The fact that their young daughter has found herself a boyfriend is something of a shock to such a family, but it is, nonetheless, a pleasant one. Alfred is very handsome and has excellent manners. The sisters and their husbands are enthusiastic when they meet the future bridegroom, but reality soon comes crashing down around them when they discover that Alfred is not English – he’s Albanian. Things get even worse when Alfred’s parents, Klampeta and Boukouran arrive on the scene. When the in-laws from Tirana arrive, there begins a maelstrom of comic events which will reveal the characters’ true colours.
