Inverso - Stella Nicodemou
The Pantheon Gallery and the artist Stella Nicodemou present her first solo exhibition entitled “INVERSO” at Pantheon Gallery on Friday 13th of May 2011, 8 pm.
The artist's showcase of digital illustrations portrays ten individual shows presented as posters in which Stella makes use of freak show elements to evoke the environment in question by creating an illusion of the atmosphere. The artist's aim is to provoke the viewer to enter the dark side of the “freak show” and carnival community with her.
This exhibition will truly be the circus tent for the “freak show”. Smoke will try to camouflage and reveal the abnormalities, freaks offering peanuts for the show will walk among the viewers, the spotlight will be on the “freaks” before they descent to their dark corners, only to emerge again. Carnival fiesta music and décor will make the audience realise that they have indeed entered another world.
Posters of “Freaks” in a semi circle will create the stage, pointing out that viewers are in the centre of the circus tent…Freaks will become the viewers; the viewers will become the show. Who will be the freak in the end? Will the experience end up being a “circus inverso”?
Posters will be adapted according to various freak acts in a real life size. 4 limited copies of each poster will be on sale. All posters will be placed in custom made packages with the buyers’ name designed to reflect the exhibitions’ theme.
Stella Nicodemou is an innovative and creative young talent in the field of advertising leaving her unique mark in the Cyprus market by introducing a fresh, edgy new approach in advertising. She is part of the creative team of one of the top 5 advertising agencies in Cyprus, with numerous revolutionary campaigns under her belt. Her artistic goal is to leave her mark in the artistic realm through her blunt approach to self-expression that can be portrayed her work.
