Iosif Hadjikyriakos - Handwork
"Handwork" is the title of the new exhibition by Iosif Hadjikyriakos, to be presented by Gallery Kypriaki Gonia from 5 – 20 September. He is inspired by embroidery - the centuries-old art of Lefkara village.
The artist focuses on the history of the craft and the transfer of knowledge and technique through the spoken word between the women of the village. The inauguration will be performed by the Mayor of Larnaca, Mr. Andreas Lourothdjiatis who will be introduced by the Mayor of Lefkara, Mr. Savvas Xenofontos, on Wednesday, 5 September at 7:30 p.m.
The exhibition reflects the artist’s research into how the Lefkara women have passed down their knowledge and passion and their faith and worship over the past five centuries. In this way, the embroiderer is converted into the High Priestess of a religion in which baptism is with a needle and their vocations are transformed into an image through Iosif’s work.
Within the scope of its promotion of new artists and of Cyprus’ timeless culture, Gallery Kypriaki Gonia has the pleasure to present for the third time our compatriot Iosif Hadjikyriakos, who lives and works in Italy.
