Iphigenia in Orem
The absorbing theatre piece “Iphigenia in Orem” by acclaimed playwright Neil LaBute, with Andreas Araouzos directed by Andreas Christodoulides, has travelled from Cyprus to Camden in London, the Damascus Opera House and to Evry-sur-Seine in Paris. This year it will be presented in Athens, at the Michalis Cacoyiannis Foundation, for five shows, 6-10 June 2012. Also 2 shows in Nicosia, on May 31st, at Theatro Ena.
This is not about a classic Agamemnon but a contemporary theatre piece from American playwright Neil LaBute’s collection of plays “bash”, whereby normal flirts with brutal. The echoes of tragedy from the title make a fascinating contrast with the simple and “cold” everyday language. Inside a hotel room a businessman confesses to a complete stranger the insidious horror of his life. A life that… goes on.
