It's Not You, It's the 21st Century (part 1)
It's easy to blame someone else for our misfortunes but it's even harder to grasp the reality in which we live in and how it affects us; our behaviour, our development, our decisions, our actions, our emotions. It's not me, it's not you, it's not us, it's the 21st century.
Documenting “could have been” scenarios of relationships of the 21st century and, where we might have gone wrong.
“While working on this project I have come to realise that the fragility of these relationships are depicted with the fragility of the lines I use and the words that are not so carefully chosen but represent, as i believe, perfectly true and honest moments between people; vulnerability and fleeting emotions between letters, words, imperfect lines and the occasional spelling mistake. I do not make sure to check spelling in my work as nothing should ever be perfect and truly nothing ever is. If something is flawed we’ve been taught to discard it, if an electronic device is flawed we’ve learned to discard or to exchange it and we’ve learned to do the same thing with human relationships. If we come to terms with our flaws and realise that everything is imperfect the weight of perfection that’s being put on us by todays society will probably be alleviated and we should be able to co-exist, with each other and with ourselves, alongside our blemished selves. “
“Living in an era in which we’ve been “manufactured” to withstand impermanence and ever changing choices and possibilities, human relationships have inevitably become so fragile yet we are in dire need for human intimacy. The artwork tries to depict the efforts we make while struggling to keep the connection. No one is now in position to know how life and human emotions will develop during and until the end of the 21st century.” Lefki Savvidou
IT’S NOT YOU, IT’S THE 21ST CENTURY is the first part of an ongoing project that was inspired by her *Daily Poetry* series in an era of misperception.
LEFKI SAVVIDOU is a visual artist concentrating mainly on illustrations and creative writing which often ends up on human skin. She lives in a place which she calls her own country surrounded by olive trees, cacti, a tone of lizards and her selection of inanimate, inhuman artefacts.
