Jazz Festival Aglantzia 2010

The Municipality of Aglantzia organizes for the forth consecutive year the Jazz Festival. The entrance to the Festival is free. Drinks and souvlaki will be available.

"The meeting point’" Jazz Quartet (Cyprus)

Two old friends, Ofer Ganor and Irenaeos Koullouras, met back in 1994 in Boston and they, since then, perform together in several occasions and places around the world, along with several musicians of the jazz scene. They will present compositions from the jazz repertoire, along with some compositions of their own.

Joachim Kühn – Majid Bekkas – Ramon Lopez
Out of the Desert” (Italy, Morocco, France)

Joachim Kühn is a musical prodigy… one of the greatest European piano virtuosos of our time, who performed with legendary musician Ornette Coleman. In this gripping concert Kühn bridges the cultural divide in an intense interaction with Moroccan Majid Bekkas who sings and plays the bass-like guembri, and Spanish drummer Ramon Lopez. Bekkas’ oriental throaty singing and Arabic grooves combine with Kühn’s sensitive improvisations, linking European classical sound, American jazz and swinging beats to create pulsating rhythms, driven forward by energetic drummer Lopez. An unexpected extra: A fiery diversion on alto saxophone by Joachim Kühn!
This is not just exquisite ethnic jazz, Kühn transcends world music clichés focusing on the pure quality of music.

Cyprus Big Band (Cyprus)

It is the first jazz orchestra in Cyprus. The Orchestra members are recognized performers, graduates from famous American and European music schools. Its repertoire is built on historical development of American and European jazz and latin music and it is covering all its stages and styles from the beginning of 20th century until today.

Human Touch and Haig Yazdjian (Greece)

Human Touch is an innovative instrumental trio. Based in Athens, they have established their own musical hybrid of universal soul. Their unique multi-instrumental approach not only makes a visual impression but projects Human Touch's limitless palette of rhythm, colour and emotional depth.

Haig Yazdjian is a remarkable musical personality, combining the virtuosic traditionalist with the restless innovator. He has established himself as a leading soloist in Greece, a reputation that brought him next to the prominent composers and leading singers. The way Yazdjian treated traditional Armenian compositions, middle-eastern expressions and his own compositions accelerated his popularity and charted him as one of the most promising composers.
