Journey through spaces by Birute Kriukelyte-Kazlauskiene
Is not gallery proudly presents Birute Kriukelyte-Kazlauskiene’s firts solo exhibition, entitled “Journey through spaces”, on Friday 7 January 2011, at 8pm.
The Lithuanian artist works as an architect and her paintings are always influenced by her everyday life in the working environment and vice verse.
Birute Kriukelyte-Kazlauskiene’s work aims at exploring the emotional amplitude in sectional spaces usually architectural objects, using minimal elements of composition. The exploration of the emotional amplitude in sectional spaces gives the concept a 3 dimensional drawing. The three dimensional experience is analysed as vertical, horizontal, and in an emotional depth. Like in architecture, where the spatial sequence is not defined, the artist’ paintings follow the same pattern, colours and minimal shapes that interlace between each other and creates a vibrant experience of space.
Birute’s work is influenced my Mark Rothko’s paintings and we can see this in the combinations in a palette of hot and cold, bright and dark, shiny and matte, rapturous and melancholy colours.
Birute Kriukelyte-Kazlauskiene has studied at the VGTU (Gediminas’ Technical University of Vilnius), in Lithuania and has received a Bachelor Diploma in Architecture. She now lives and works in Paphos as an architect at Vardas Studio, architectural office.
