Elena Tsigaridou was born in Nicosia in 1980 and graduated from the American Academy of Larnaca, in 1998. She was then accepted in the Academia di Belle Arti di Roma where she graduated with Honours. She participated in various exhibitions in Cyprus and abroad. She now works as an art teacher at the American Academy Larnaca.

John Warren studied graphic design at St. Martin’s school of Art, London followed by postgraduate studies in illustration. He moved to Cyprus in 1980 and started teaching at the American Academy in Larnaca. He has held eight solo exhibitions in Cyprus and has participated in numerous group exhibitions both in Cyprus and the U.K.

The artists in this group exhibition represent four diverse and unique responses to the world. If there is a common theme then it could be described as a journey of discovery into an unknown country. For each artist the creative act is an ongoing process of development, refinement and experimentation.

Thekla Papadopoulou and John Warren’s paintings suggest both the grandeur and strangeness of the physical landscape whilst Elena Tsigaridou’s portraits evoke the private world of personal identity, alienation and self-containment. Ioanna Kythreotou’s glass works reveal a jewel-like intimate preciousness, each piece acting both as a mirror to the spectator’s curiosity and as a window onto the cosmos.e four artists do share another common feature- they are art teachers whose ideas and approaches also find expression in their students’ work at the American Academy, Larnaca.
