Cyprus : Family Concert "L'estro Armonico"

The Children's Musical Society of Paphos presents the third concert from its Family Concerts series at Technopolis 20, entitled “L'estro Armonico”, on Sunday, 22nd of April at 4pm, where the string instruments will be presented. Join us and meet the string instruments through a performance and stories for each instrument. The narrative and performance will be accompanied by a video presentation.

Andreas Constantinou (violin), Nikolas Efthymiou (viola), Doros Zesimos (cello), Hristo Ovcharov (double bass) and Natalia Lezedova (piano) will perform works by Mozart, Kreisler, Stamitz, Schubert and Saint-Saens, with different combinations and solo performances of each instrument.

The Paphos Children’s Musical Society family concerts give the opportunity to children to learn about the different families of the musical instruments of the symphony orchestra, the history of their origin and the peculiarities of each specific instrument.

A few words about the musicians
Andreas Constantinou (violin): Andreas Constantinou was born in Limassol. He studied violin at the Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in Moscow. He worked in Limassol for many years as a violin teacher. He is a founder member of the Cyprus State Orchestra. Andreas Constantinou was the lead violinist of the orchestra for 15 years. Now Andreas Constantinou is working as a vice manager in secondary schools in Limassol. Andreas performs as a violinist- soloist and in chamber ensembles. Repeatedly invited to competitions and festivals as the chairman of the jury in Cyprus and Serbia, conducted master classes.

Nikolas Efthymiou (viola): Being attracted to the game of sound from a very early age Nikolas Efthymiou found in the viola an inexhaustible pool of possibilities to form and transform his dreams. He started studying the violin with Cypriot violinist Andreas Nikolaou at Cyprus Odeon and Trinity College which he concluded at the age of 14. Further studies were undertaken in Germany on violin and viola with Stelios Kafantaris, M.Speerman, Frank Strauch, and John Kinsella. During his studies in Hochschule fuer Musik Weimar he participated in Hochschulorchester Weimar and cooperated with Weimar Staatscapelle, and Jenaer Philarmonie. Solo recitals in Spain, Germany, France, Serbia, Greece and Cyprus. He has also taken part in several music workshops and festivals like Bad Sobernheim Musik academy, Weimar Sommerakademie, Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music, Detmold Musikhochschule – Meisterkurse and he studied in the classes of known musicians like T.Zehetmair, V.Klimov, T.Brandis, W.Christ, E.Krueger,Cr. Euler, L.Matczynsky. In 2007 Nikolas Efthymiou forms the experimental ‘’Ensemble Casual’’ which seeks to bridge several music periods and styles ranging from Baroque to Tango and Jazz. He has participated as a soloist or as chamber music musician in prestigious festivals in Cyprus like Cypria, Paphos2017, Faneromeni and others. Nikolas Efthymiou is a substitute member of Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and he teaches in its scholarship program for young soloist.

Doros Zesimos (cello) was born in Cyprus in 1981. He graduated from the National State Academy of Music “Pancho Vladigerov” in Sofia where he studied with Professor’s Anatoli Krastev, Vasil Kazandjiev and Rusi Dragnev. He attended master classes with Yoncho Bayrov, Emilia Baranowska, Thomas Carroll, Maria Kliegel, Franz Bartolomey, Stephan Popov and Bridget MacRae, Chagit Glaser and Peter Somodarin. Doros Zesimos is currently teaching at the Music Workshop of the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra and at the Governmental Music Schools all over Cyprus He is a member of the Cyprus Chamber Orchestra, the Concordia String Quartet, collaborates with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and appears in concerts with various ensembles and groups around the island and abroad.

Hristo Ovcharov began his musical education at the age of six by participating in a boys’ choir in his birth town of Dupnitsa, Bulgaria. At the age of seven his family had to move to the capital of the country - Sofia where he got accepted into the Children's National Radio Choir. Hristo started attending piano, theory and double bass lessons. He graduated the double bass performer classes of The National Music School (2007) and the National Music Academy (2011), in Sofia, after which he left the country to acquire a Master's degree in musical performance from the State School of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim, Germany (2014). Hristo was soon after invited for the position of P. Iuga's assistant in the Cyprus Young String Soloists' double bass class. He holds prizes from several solo and chamber music competitions in Bulgaria, Serbia, FYROM. The double bass performer has given concerts on three of the continents so far as a soloist and as a part of different formations. Hristo is currently undergoing his PhD studies in historic music from a performer’s perspective.

Natalia Lezedova (piano) is a graduate of the Musical Faculty of the State Pedagogical University of Russia, and she also has postgraduate studies in "Musical Art" (2012). She attended an advanced training course from the Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg State Conservatory (2013). She is also a laureate of five international competitions, among them: two first prizes as a performer-soloist (Saint-Petersburg and Moscow 2012), winner of the Grand-Prix music festival competition “Severnaya Venetsia” (2012) and first prize laureate as a concertmaster (Music Competition in Performing Arts in St. Petersburg, 2013). In recent years she has arranged many concerts in Cyprus, most of them for charity, and she has collaborated with musicians from Russia, Cyprus, Italy, French, Germany and UK.
