A Christmas Tour of the A.G. Leventis Gallery
This Christmas the Director of the A. G. Leventis Gallery, Loukia Loizou Hadjigavriel, the Deputy Director, Demetra Theodotou Anagnostopoulou, and Curator Katerina Stephanides invite you to a journey through the ‘Divine Light of Creation’ in the works of the Gallery’s Paris Collection.
On Wednesday 23 December at 10.30 am, just a few days before Christmas, the A. G. Leventis Gallery will offer a unique tour that delves into the history of European art and follows the trail of the Nativity Stories from the Byzantine and Post-Renaissance periods to Baroque and 19th century art. Through viewing the works of the Collection, we will learn about a story gleaned from the Gospels and steadily embellished over time: a story that has been expounded upon in sacred texts, hymns and apocryphal writings, illustrated by the imagination of artists, enlivened in accounts of miraculous visions and exalted through the piety of centuries and the generations that have envisaged in this sacred tale not only the unfathomable complexity of the Incarnation, but also something profoundly human – birth, hope, motherhood, life and the promise of salvation.
The A. G. Leventis Gallery team will guide you through the fascinating way in which artists have used light and shadow to capture the true meaning of the scene and imprint, upon paper and canvas, both the human and the divine.
The ‘Divine Light of Creation’ is a story that will enchant one and all.
Entrance to join the tour is free.
