The Life and Work of Stelios Votsis
The Visual Artists Association of Cyprus’ on-going monthly series of lectures at the Phytorio entitled “Το Βήμα στον Καλλιτέχνη” aim to give artists the opportunity to speak on any field of study in the visual arts, art history and art theory, but also to provide them with a forum in which to share and discuss their own body of work. The lecture series also endeavors to build a dialogue between artists and audience, so that the existing verbal and visual discourse in Cyprus pertaining to the arts may be enriched by a continuous exchange of ideas and thoughts.
The second cycle of this lecture series, which will take place on Thursday, the 7th of February 2013, is a presentation of particular significance, as it is in commemoration of the recently deceased Cypriot artist, Stelios Votsis. The two speakers of the evening, researcher and art historian Dr. Eleni Nikita, and artist Andreas Chrysochos, will discuss the life and work of Stelios Votsis. They will portray his role in the arts and the impact of his legacy, not only from a historical standpoint, but also from the personal perspective of accounts and anecdotes about the renowned Cypriot artist.
Discussion will follow.
