From Limits to Possibilities
Workshop for people with movement disabilities.
Giulio D 'Anna is a choreographer with studies in alternative medicine and is particularly interested in the connection of healing practices and arts. In the context of the European program Act Your Age, he created a dance performance sharing the stage with his father, who suffers from Parkinson's disease . This experience led him to create a movement workshop, which is not only accessible by people with reduced physical mobility but also beneficial for their health.
The workshop offers a playful exploration and invites participants to move under the direction of the choreographer, discovering the possibilities hidden in the body under the restriction of a disease. Focusing on the potentials of a body rather than its boundaries, invites participants to communicate through creative practices and share their personal stories through movement of the body.
The workshop is an investigation of how dance and creative movement can benefit people with reduced mobility. Similar surveys and workshops are taking place in the world with already great impact, encouraging results in the physical condition of patients and an establishment of the connection "dance – therapy". Indicative of the effect of such practices in America is the comment by a patient of the Parkinson's disease participating in a similar workshop : "I am awed by the power of dance to transform and alleviate pain. Despite the steady advance of Parkinson’s, we show up. We move. We laugh. We share our best selves.”
