Manufactured Landscapes
Manufactured Landscapes is Jennifer Baichwal’s award-winning documentary on renowned artist Edward Burtynsky whose large-scale photographs portray the devastating impact of industrial expansion on the environment. Burtynsky creates stunningly beautiful art from the materials and debris of civilization, provoking questions about ethics and aesthetics, and shifting our consciousness about the world and the way we live in. The film follows Burtynsky as he travels through China photographing the evidence and effects of that country’s massive industrial revolution. Baichwal extends the narrative streams of his photography, allowing us to meditate on our profound impact on the planet and witness both the epicentres of industrial endeavour and the dumping grounds of its waste.
