Maria Papacharalambous - here & there

Maria Papacharalambous‘ new collection entitled «here & there» is again filled with interiority and spirituality, but this time through an experiential approach. With the intelligent title here & there and borrowing again the symbol «t» which symbolizes time, she juggles on the ‘here‘ and ‘there’ wordplay. By subtracting the factor of time, they co-exist simultaneously. She has managed, one more time, to essentially prove that which she has defined already (among others): the more personal, the more it is universal. With a freed body and spirit, she manages to charge this creation, not through the loneliness of her workspace (an element which is seen through older collections) but with an energy that flows from her own life.

Her language is concise, immediate and penetrative. Selected
«minor-discharges» leave behind them «multi-layered» narrations which lead to personal trips into the memory of the past and the future. It‘s as if the soul has no more space within the body and transfers experiences inducively. The various layers and levels of interpretation of her work constitute magic to the senses, where words loose their interpretive meaning and touch upon feelings that usually come about through music, scent and intuition. The symbols, the materials and the forms are immediately autonomized, taken beyond their semiological interpretation: becoming humble and penetrative exercises of intuition. A penetration into the deepest landscapes of the subconscious, the collective memory and the deeper truth of the world. Humor and irony is used as a means towards self-knowledge and balance. Enjoyment of the game/ trip with the acceptance of the conditions, but also their overthrowing while rejecting the obvious.

By choosing to present “here & there” as a trilogy which takes place in three different locations, three different spaces, she creates a triangle in dialogue. She takes advantage of various forms of expression, three dimensional wall works, caleidoscopes, video art, sculpture and video installations.

The public will have the opportunity to become familiarized with Maria Papacharalambous’ previous works, since 2010 is the 20-year anniversary of her first solo exhibition. On Thursday, June 17th at 20.30, there will be a showing of selected films and video art by the artist.

Following the Cyprus exhibits, the exhibition will travel to three locations abroad: the Macedonian Museum of Modern Art in Thessaloniki, at ConcentArt in Berlin and at μARTos in Madrid.

The Trilogy will be accompanied by a catalogue.
