When Life Turns to Stone - Marianna Psara
'The Forgotten Art - When Life Turns to Stone' Fine Art Exhibition by Marianna Psara.
Exhibition Duration: 5th of February 2016- 29th February 2016
Mankind has always strived to depict, explore and capture the extremes of human expression and emotion throughout art. I find that art is a beautiful way of which humanity immortalizes the meaning of soul and who we are as a human race. Our means of expression, creation and drive to capture our inner feelings turns also into a way of which we live on for centuries to come.
My love and admiration for sculpture first came to be on a visit to an old cemetery site where as I walked through, eerie faces stared down at me evoking a feeling of presence. I came to realize how we seem to not acknowledge their existence and have therefore become a form of ‘forgotten art’.
In this exhibition I have decided to depict and highlight these great sculptures by capturing their beauty and sense of immortal presence in a different light. Sculptors have captured these internal and external human emotions of fear, anger, love, loss and sadness suspended in an eternal moment of tension.
In some of my paintings you will see the transition of the subject starting to partly turn into a formation of stone. This leads us to contemplate and decipher how we through life’s struggles can metaphorically make us feel like we are turning into stone, then reminding us that despite all these adversities of life we must always move on, making us stronger.
