Mediterranean Trio
The Mediterranean Trio will have a performance at Technopolis 20, on Friday, November 18th at 8pm. The Mediterranean Trio is comprised of Miltiades Papastamou (Greece) on violin, Yiannis Miralis (Cyprus) on saxophones and Michael Tsalka (Israel/Holland) on piano. The trio presents a wide range of original repertoire for this unique combination of instruments, commissioned by Greek, Cypriot, Israeli and Finnish composers, as well as other works by French and American composers.
Their goal is to promote chamber music for this unique medium and to incorporate traditional and contemporary musics from Eastern Mediterranean. That’s why it has so far collaborated with Cypriot composers Stavros Lantsias, Savvas Savva, Giorgos Karvellos and Inna Koutroupi, as well as Nicos Kypourgos from Greece, Tero-Pekka Hennell from Finland and Gene Pritsker and Daniel Alcheh from Israel. As a critic from a major Cypriot newspaper wrote “This unique chamber music group was able to develop a unique combination between traditional and modern and offers an impressive array of timbers, utilizing their diverse musical experiences from the worlds of classical, jazz, pop and traditional music.”
The trio was created on the occasion of the “Cyprus Spring 2014” organized by the Embassy of Cyprus in Germany, and recently performed with great success at the Gasteig Theatre in Munich, the Cultural Festival of the University of Cyprus in Nicosia, the Beethovenhause in Bonn, the Geelvinck museum in Amsterdam and the Volksbühne theatre in Berlin, as well as in Helsinki. In May 2015 the trio recorded their first CD, which will be out in 2016.
