Melina Apostolidou - City Recollections
"City Recollections" is the title of the exhibition by Melina Apostolidou opening at Gloria Gallery on Tuesday, April 24th at 19.30. The exhibition will be open until May 07th 2012.
The work in the exhibition "City Recollections" is the result of the artist’s process of manipulating images taken from urban environments. Worn down walls and other surfaces, shadows and architectural elements are captured with photographs and drawings to serve as the beginning for the artist to create works in which she moves between depiction and abstract form.
The main element in Melina’s work is the many layers of colour and various techniques which result in a personal vocabulary of meaning in which the essence of time and transition are recorded as well as the painting process itself.
The formation and permeability of shape as well as the obvious experimentation with various media, the strong colours and lines, clearly imprint a personal vision regarding the urban environment through a modern visual approach
