Memories of Asia Minor
The Folklore Group “Lygeri” of SEK Nicosia-Kyrenia, in collaboration with the National Association of “Kyriacos Matsis”, chose this year, through a musical-theatrical and dance performance, to revive the cultural tradition and culture of the Hellenism of the ancient Asia Minor before the catastrophe, and show the impact it had on refugees.
The revival will be presented more intensely through the dancing tradition and will be framed by short theatrical dialogues, video projections, songs and music from the traditional instrument of santouri. The event wants to portray the life and splendor of the Greek culture of Asia Minor and how that has affected the whole of Greece and Cyprus after the Asia Minor catastrophe in 1922. It is not the purpose of this event to present the origins or the racial or political conflicts that caused this disaster.
The event “Asia Minor Memories” is under the auspices of the “Asia Minor Association of Cyprus”, the “Institute of Hellenic Culture” and the President of the House of Representatives, Mr. Dimitris Syllouris.
We invite you to this event on Wednesday 30th of May 2018 at 20:00 at Lakatamia Municipal Amphitheatre (duration approx. 90 minutes).
