Μidsummer Night's Dream
The Cultural Centre of the University of Cyprus welcomes the Sykies Municipal Theatre Company for a one and only performance in the framework of the exchange of cultural events between the two institutions. Celebrating its 30th anniversary the Sykies Municipal Theatre Company presents works by great stage writers. The selected plays have as a common denominator Greek and international myths. The present performance features volunteers – young professional and nonprofessional actors, guided by experienced and recognised theatre professionals. The theatre company has toured all around Greece, participating in high-profile national festivals and claiming important awards.
About the play
“A Midsummer’s Night Dream”, more than any other Shakespearean comedy, is a satire – a satire of acting and actors, of love and lovers, of the power play played at all levels and with all means in both the real and the supernatural world. The stories of the young lovers Theseus and Hippolyta, of Pyramus and Thisbe are all taken from ancient myths. And they all come to live in a haunted and treacherous world, somewhere in the woods of Athens.
